Mattis to Deploy Hundreds of Troops to Border as Caravan Approaches

Saagar Enjeti | White House Correspondent
Secretary of Defense James Mattis is expected to deploy hundreds of U.S. troops to the southern border to bolster border patrol operations as a caravan of illegal immigrants approach.

The news was first reported by CNN who noted that the troops “are expected to provide fencing, wall materials and other technical support at several key points along the border where it is believed the migrants may try to cross.”

BREAKING: U.S. official says hundreds more U.S. troops expected to deploy to southern border as caravan continues journey north

President Donald Trump has repeatedly pledged that he will send U.S. troops to the southern border to stop the approaching caravan, declaring it on Twitter Thursday morning a national emergency.

Donald J. Trump

@realDonaldTrump

Brandon Judd of the National Border Patrol Council is right when he says on @foxandfriends that the Democrat inspired laws make it tough for us to stop people at the Border. MUST BE CHANGED, but I am bringing out the military for this National Emergency. They will be stopped!

The caravan has swelled to nearly 6,000 people with the apparent intention of entering the U.S. and claiming asylum. Current U.S. law requires a lengthy asylum adjudication process and the Trump administration believes many migrants are using loopholes in U.S. law to illegally immigrate. These laws could mitigate the effectiveness of Trump’s deployment.

Trump previously deployed troops to the border in April 2018 authorizing nearly 2000 troops on the border to assist in enforcement activity. The troops are largely unarmed and serve as support personnel for the Department of Homeland Security.

Who came up with that photo? Those are NOT U.S. Army soldiers! The helmets are Soviet/WP and the soldiers are clutching a Sov gas mask bag! The camo is close to U.S. woodland. Is someone suggesting Trump is sending Sov or Russian Allies to our border?

All this because “progressive politicians” are more concerned about reelection than they are about the safety and security of those who voted them into office.

We can debate about what needs to be done to stem the flow of low wage earners and drugs into our nation, but we can’t start with any action, like a wall for starters.

Mark my word, with this porous border there will be low income invaders at one site, and while Border Enforcement Agents and the Military are attempting to stem the flow of them, the drug traffickers will be hitting other sections of the border where no one is watching.
