OJAI, Calif. – Effective November 13, 2019, the operator of the Ojai Valley Organics Recycling Center, on Old Baldwin Road, has stopped accepting any greenwaste material. The private company, which leased land owned by the County of Ventura, has decided to permanently discontinue operations. Per a letter of withdrawal submitted by the company, the owner will restore and vacate the site by December 11.
Since 1998, the Ojai Valley Organics Recycling Center has provided a number of services and a drop-off location within the Ojai and Ventura River Valleys for unwanted tree trimmings, yard clippings, horse stall bedding, and lumber. The facility converted these organic materials into commercial mulch. The County is currently speaking with other potential greenwaste recycling operators for the site.
Residents may either contact E.J. Harrison and Sons to obtain greenwaste or other waste bins or residents may transport greenwaste to the Gold Coast Recycling and Transfer Station at 5275 Colt Street in Ventura, the nearest recycling facility to the closed facility. To avoid the spread of invasive insects, Ojai Valley residents are encouraged to either chip woody materials where they are cut, or to cover loads during transport.

As well, Agromin, which offers the purchase of mulch and compost, is another alternative option for residents.
