2nd Annual Channel Islands Maritime Museum WOWder Chowderfest 2016

Hundreds of Chowder enthusiasts were treated to a sampling of some of Ventura County restaurant’s best clam chowder at the 2nd Annual Channel Islands Maritime Museum’s Chowderfest.
Folks turned out for the 2nd Annual Chowder CIMM Chowderfest
On hand to pour several gallons of chowder were owners and staff from Jetty Surf Café, DJ’s Catering, Yolanda’s Mexican Café, Brasserie Communautaire, Lookout, Quincy Street, Fisherman’s Catch, Seaward Fish & Chips, Sea Fresh, Spencer Makenzies, Tomas Café and La Dolce Vita.
Guests not only sampled more than a dozen different chowder recipes, but also enjoyed delicious desserts from Missy’s Cupcakes and Nothing Bundt Cakes.
Museum volunteers also were busy pouring a selection of wines from local wineries Four Brix, Herzog and Rancho Ventavo and cold beer from Firestone Walker Brewery to accompany the food.
Getting a tall one
For thirsty non-alcoholic drinkers, Lori Volk, owner Lori’s Original Lemonade, served her Organic Lavender Lemonade which recently won the BevStar 2016 “Best in Show” and the “Gold” Award in the juice category presented by Beverage World Magazine’s Worldwide competition!
Attendees were also treated to a free tour of the Maritime Museum while being entertained by the nine piece band “Kelly’s Lot” who kept things lively throughout the festival.
The highlight of the afternoon was the presentation of awards by Julia Chambers, Executive Director of the Maritime Museum.
First time entrée Brasserie Communautaire took First Place in the non-traditional category with their green curry chilled chowder.
First Place People’s Choice Winner Spencer Makenzies
The Judge’s First Place award went to last year’s People’s Choice winner The Lookout with this year’s first place People’s Choice award going to Spencer Makenzies who provided a little kick with their chowder with their added choice of “Sweet Chili Fire” and “Little Sweet, Lotta Heat” sauces.
All proceeds from this annual event will benefit the Channel Islands Maritime Museum, so be sure to get your tickets early for next year’s Chowderfest 2017!
