Off duty LAPD Officer shoots and kills dog attacking Ventura Woman

On January 24th at 4:46 PM, the Ventura Police Department Command Center received a call that a dog had just attacked a pedestrian and that a possible shooting had occurred in the 1500 block of Johnson Drive. Ventura Police Patrol Officers responded and learned that the victim was walking her dog when another dog approached and began attacking her dog. The victim tried to free her dog and was also attacked. An off-duty LAPD Officer who was driving by stopped to help and subsequently shot and killed the attacking dog after attempts to control the dog were unsuccessful by other bystanders.
The victim of the dog attack was transported to the hospital for treatment to bite wounds on her arm. The owner of the dog was located a short time later and Ventura PD officers determined no crime had occurred. LAPD was notified and they responded for an administrative investigation into the shooting by the off-duty officer.
