6th Annual Back to School Bash Supports over 500 Foster Youth with over $100K in Donations

James Storehouse partners with Homes with Heart VC for largest ever back to school, Covid-19 friendly, drive through event.

On Saturday, August 1st, James Storehouse hosted their largest 6th annual back-to-school event in collaboration with Homes with Heart VC. Due to Covid-19, the event was transformed into a full service drive through experience complete with socially distanced superheroes, princesses and a Mister Softee treat to round out the day.

The event drew in over 700 pre-registered families along with over 500 youth in care to select from a variety of brand new backpacks, name brand tennis shoes, and other essential school supplies all passed out by masked community volunteers. Over $100K in donated items was provided for the event by community members and local organizations.

“We had the most amazing time supporting our youth in care this weekend,” said Jaci Johnson, Program Coordinator III  of Recruitment at County of Ventura, Human Services Agency. “This is the 6th year we have collaborated with James Storehouse to benefit the kids, and we were so excited that Covid-19 didn’t stop us from bringing in so many deserving families by reverting to a drive through experience.”

Stacy DeWitt, Executive Director at  James Storehouse said, “This is the biggest turn out in the six years we’ve been hosting this event, I couldn’t be happier with the turn out and we encourage the community to continue donating items that can benefit our most vulnerable population and make them feel loved.”
