On Sunday, April 30th, the 2017 “Best in Fest” Brewery Competition of the Casa Pacifica Angels Wine, Food & Brew Festival (scheduled for Sunday, June 4th) will take place at The Lab Brewing Co., inside the Twisted Oak Tavern in Agoura Hills (not open to the public). Curtis Taylor of HopHeadSaid.com and JC Lombardo have coordinated the competition, once again, which will include local craft breweries who will each provide samples of their finest brew to be blind judged by five brew experts – Erin Peters, columnist and beer blogger, also known as  “The Beer Goddess;” Lisa “Monie” Wickenden, beer specialist for the Wine Warehouse; Jorge Alem, owner of Ojai Beverage Company; Jason Hendricks, General Manager of Barrelhouse 101; and Kevin Pratt, who is a Certified Cicerone®, and head brewer at the Santa Barbara Brewing Company. Kevin is the second highest ranked BJCP judge in the United States.

Participants scheduled so far to compete in the 2017 Wine, Food & Brew Festival “Best in Fest” brew competition include:  Enegren Brewing Company, Institution Ale Company, Five Threads Brewing Company, MadeWest Brewing Company, The Lab Brewing Company, Ladyface Ale Companie, and M.Special Brew Co.  Entries from the brew masters will be judged on style, aroma, appearance, flavor, mouthfeel, and overall impression. The judges will award a “Best in Fest” winner, who will be presented their first place prize during the Wine, Food & Brew Festival on June 4th, along with two Honorable Mentions. The winning brew will also be paired with a dinner course at the behind-the-scenes 4th annual Yummie Top Chef Dinner, a $200 per person event, taking place two nights prior to the Festival on June 2nd.
