Ventura River to connect Rivers, Fish and People
Saturday, May 24th 11am-2pm
Ventura River Parkway
The Ventura Hillsides Conservancy and Friends of the Ventura River will be hosting their annual Ventura River picnic on Saturday, May 24th from 11AM-2PM at the Willoughby Preserve in downtown Ventura. This year’s event coincides with World Fish Migration Day 2014 (WFMD) , a one day global initiative, with local events worldwide, to create awareness on the importance of open rivers and migratory fish. Currently, migratory fish are threatened and fish stocks are declining rapidly around the world. This is especially true in Ventura, where the Santa Clara and Ventura Rivers historically were teeming with now endangered Steelhead Trout. The free event is open to the public and features guided tours of the river, informative displays, activities for children and a free picnic lunch.
