Cannabis Saves The Fourth Of July

    The Show Must Go On

A popular event that was thought to be cancelled because of budget concerns in the City of Oxnard is coming back. The County of Ventura Harbor Department will be hosting its annual “Fireworks by the Sea” show at the Channel Islands Harbor this year. In a last-minute effort to prevent the cancellation of this spectacular light show, five local and licensed cannabis dispensaries in the City of Port Hueneme are contributing $30,000 to save this Independence Day event. Harbor Lessees Association Executive Director Steven Kinney said, “When we heard that the City of Oxnard might pull out of the event due to budget constraints, we knew we needed to spearhead an effort to find supporters to help continue this great annual tradition in our community.”

When approached, all five dispensaries, located along the “Green Mile”, did not hesitate to be partners in this local fireworks show which serves the communities of Port Hueneme and Oxnard. These dispensaries include Skunkmasters, From the Earth, Wheelhouse, Hueneme Patient, and Safe Port.  The contribution will help cover expenses associated with the fireworks show which is expected to bring 15,000-20,000 people to the area. Our cannabis dispensaries are continuing to make significant contributions to our community which are impacting our way of life in a very positive manner. This large donation is preceded by the donation made to the regional homeless shelter this past February where a $35,000 donation paid for 100 homeless shelter beds.

The Port Hueneme Police Department was concerned that due to a lack of a fireworks show in the community, it would have inevitably led to an increase in illegal fireworks use in the Cities of Oxnard and Port Hueneme.

Each year, the Port Hueneme Police Department receives hundreds of complaints regarding illegal fireworks on July 4th, and the days leading to the Fourth of July.  The complaints range from pets that are extremely frightened by the noise and commotion of fireworks, to veterans who suffer an adverse reaction to fireworks.  Each year and despite warnings, fireworks account for numerous fires as well as physical injuries to citizens across the County of Ventura.  The Port Hueneme Police Department believes the fireworks show will help limit the illegal use of fireworks in the area and thus help reduce complaints, fires, and injuries. In the City of Port Hueneme and Oxnard, All fireworks are prohibited.

Please join us at the Channel Islands Harbor Fireworks Celebration on July 4th at 9:00 p.m. and forgo the unlawful fireworks.

Festivities at this day long celebration at the Channel Islands Harbor include a 5K run/walk, a children’s parade, and an electrical boat parade. For more information about this year’s fireworks show and their related festivities’, please visit:
