The Moorpark Morning Rotary Club has awarded a $2,000 Ron Helus Scholarship of Valor to Moorpark High School senior Claire Mosher. This annual scholarship is available to Moorpark students interested in pursuing law enforcement careers and was established in honor and remembrance of Sergeant Ron Helus, a Moorpark resident and 29-year law enforcement veteran who lost his life in the tragic Borderline shooting last November.
“We are so proud to honor Ron Helus by giving out this scholarship,” said rotary club President Tara Thomas. “Claire will go on to do great things and will forever carry Ron’s legacy with her.”
Mosher has a 4.071 GPA and works part time at Command Performance Catering. She has already been accepted to several colleges and plans to attend Arizona State University to earn a degree in business marketing before attending law school.
“My goal is to become a district attorney,” Mosher said. “I have learned that helping people, giving them a second chance and protecting the public are what’s important. I want to continue my family’s tradition of serving others and being involved with law enforcement.”
Both of Mosher’s parents also worked in law enforcement. Her father is medically retired from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), and her mother is currently an LAPD detective.
