I met with City Manager Brad ‘ Brick”Conners last week and he says the city staff is working on a city plan that commemorates City property, facilities and people that have greatly contributed to the betterment of “the friendly city by the sea”. Below is the outline by City Manager Conners for forming the policy document.
‘ We are writing a policy document that standardizes the process by which the City names, renames, and commemorates City Owned property, facilitates, events and even equipment. The policy will establish guidelines and thresholds for recognizing sustained extraordinary City accomplishments and ethical excellence in direct support of City culture, governance, and community development. The process will include community nominations, committee screening and recommendations, public comment, and council approval. Also, included would be an annual recognition for an exceptional contribution in the calendar year. Also, it will include an annual recognition for an exceptional contribution in the calendar year. I wouldn’t create a special committee either since we already have a few underutilized committees already. For example, I’d increase the scope of the Citizens Advisory Commission to include vetting nomination candidates. I’d also use the committee to review and provide input to the policy instruction prior to its activation.”
The City and Hueneme Voice will keep you updated on the policy document as it is developed. I look forward to the honoring of city structures, venues, places of major importance and individuals that make Port Hueneme the great place it is.
