Demonstrators amassed at various locations across the state as a much larger protest exploded in Washington, D.C.
CALIFORNIA — Civil unrest in California erupted into violence in both Sacramento and Los Angeles Wednesday as thousands amassed to protest the results of the 2020 presidential election, according to multiple reports from law enforcement agencies and videos circulating on social media.
It started in Washington D.C. on Wednesday morning, where congress had convened to certify the results to confirm President-elect Joe Biden’s electoral victory. But the otherwise routine procedure was unexpectedly interrupted by a raucous mob of angry Donald Trump supporters as they fought their way past law enforcement and stormed the U.S. Capitol in an unprecedented momentary annexation.
As congress members were ushered into lockdown with others evacuated, a woman died in the midst of shots fired into the building, The Washington Post reported.
Gov. Gavin Newsom on Wednesday decried the siege of the D.C. building, and San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo asserted that Trump should be put on trial for sedition.
