VENTURA, California – Tyler James Clark (DOB 03/04/88), of Ventura, has been charged with one felony count of assault with a deadly weapon committed with a hate crime allegation, and one misdemeanor count of resisting, obstructing, or delaying a peace officer.
On May 5, 2021, Clark yelled racial slurs at an African American man inside a Ventura convenience store. The victim attempted to leave the store as Clark continued to yell racial slurs and threats. Clark followed the victim and stabbed him in the torso. Clark fled the scene but was apprehended a short time later by the Ventura Police Department.
On May 10, 2021, Clark appeared in court and pled not guilty to the charges and allegations. The case was continued to May 18, 2021, at 1:30 p.m. in courtroom 12 of the Ventura County Superior Court for an early disposition conference. Clark remains in custody pending bail which was set at $145,000.
