Oxnard Police Department | DUI and Driver’s License Checkpoint Results

    Press Release

Oxnard, Ca. – 896 drivers were screened while driving through a DUI checkpoint on June 26, 2021. The checkpoint was held at Rose Avenue south of Camino Del Sol from 7:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.

Twenty-six drivers were cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended/revoked license. Two drivers were arrested for DUI.

Checkpoint locations are based on a history of crashes and DUI arrests. The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired.

As businesses continue to reopen, including bars and restaurants, impaired driving remains a top traffic safety concern.  Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

If those folks were unlicensed or driving with a revoked license, would you want to bet that they also do not have the State mandatory liability insurance? Why would they bother? But do the police check for that? Absolutely not. Remember the days when you must prove to have insurance to even register your car? Those days are gone. Of course, there were ways around that too. Wonder how many drivers on the Ventura County roads do not have the minimum mandatory liability insurance?

Notice most of the people had no license or suspended so what does that mean

They just couldn’t wait to get those DUIs back in business. The DUI industry has greatly been hurt by the pandemic. They didn’t know what to do. Losing all that money
