The Families of Alaska Flight 261 will again honor their family members whose lives were
lost on board Alaska Flight 261 on January 31, 2000. Due to the continued COVID-19
pandemic, this year’s memorial will be held both in person and a virtual link will be
available for those families who are unable to attend in person.
The Families of Alaska Flight 261 have partnered with the City of Port Hueneme to safely
host a memorial at the monument site, with a video stream option to share the location’s
beauty, and to continue with the memorial services for family members and colleagues at
Alaska Air Group in Seattle, Washington.
Included in this year’s memorial weekend will be:
- Sunday, January 30th
The annual cleaning of the Alaska Flight 261 Monument by members of the Port
Hueneme community
- Monday, January 31st
- Welcome by Anarudh Prasad, President of the Families of Alaska Flight 261
- Presentation of the Colors by the Hueneme High School ROTC Color Guard
- Flag Salute
- Singing of the National Anthem by Hueneme High School Choir and attending family
members
- Hindi Readings by Family Members
- Invocation by Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Chaplain Ron Matthews
- Recognition of local community members
- Recognition of the Retirement of NTSB leaders involved in AS261
- The reading of the names of the flight crew and passengers on board AS261, and the laying of a rose on each AS261 monument plaque
