The Ventura Police Department encourages drivers to
choose a sober way to travel
Ventura, CA- The Ventura Police Department Traffic Unit will conduct a DUI checkpoint at an undisclosed location within the city limits on Friday, August 26, 2022, from 7:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. As the summer travel season wraps up, the Ventura Police Department reminds drivers to be responsible and never drive under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
DUI checkpoint locations are chosen based on a history of DUI collision statistics and arrests, with the primary purpose not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring residents from driving impaired.
“Whether traveling locally or taking a longer road trip to see friends and family, please have a game plan for how to get home safely,” said Officer Chris Wilson. “There is never a good excuse for driving after drinking or using drugs that impair.”
The Ventura Police Department will have also have additional officers on patrol August 17 through Labor Day weekend looking for drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
In 2020, 1,159 people were killed throughout the state in drunk driving-related crashes, which accounted for 30 percent of all traffic deaths.
If you see someone driving impaired, call 9-1-1.
Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
