The “SUPER BOWL” of Birthday Parties!

MOORPARK, CASaturday, February 3, 2018 America’s Teaching Zoo will host the SUPER BOWL of birthday parties fit for the King of the Campus, Ira the lion.  “This year as Ira turns 4, we are looking to celebrate this milestone with all of his fans. What better way to prepare for the big football game on Sunday? Enjoy a roaring good time on Saturday at the biggest birthday party of the year,” said Mara Rodriguez, Zoo Staff at America’s Teaching Zoo at Moorpark College.

Zoo guests can see “what a difference a year makes” in the life of a lion.  “Since celebrating Ira’s 3rd birthday, he has grown from lion cub to lion king,” explains Rodriguez, “his mane is quite the attraction now that it has filled in and his roar can be heard loud and clear off the hilltop. There is nothing like the sound of a lion roaring in Moorpark.”

The “Super Bowl of Birthdays” kicks off at 1pm on February 3rd when guests can enjoy the excitement as Ira receives his presents made by his student trainers. We are also giving the community an opportunity to join our team and purchase a gift for Ira through our Amazon Wish List.

After he rips through his presents, guests can join in singing “Happy Birthday” to our lion king. Birthday cake will be served to all partygoers; kids and adults will have crowns to color and make their own.

This year we focus on Ira’s future and fundraising for his new home at America’s Teaching Zoo, The Hillside Expansion. Guests can learn about the plans for the hillside and get a glimpse of what we will provide Ira and all of his big cat friends in the future.

America’s Teaching Zoo is open from 11am-5pm. Admission is $8/adults and $6/kids and seniors. Zoo members receive free admission to this event.  The zoo is located at 7075 Campus Road, Moorpark, CA 93021, (805) 378-1441 or find us on the web http://www.moorparkcollege.edu/teaching-zoo

America’s Teaching Zoo at Moorpark College is home to the Exotic Animal Training and Management (EATM) program. This unique program trains students to work safely and humanely with wild and exotic animals at zoos, aquariums, and wildlife facilities across the country.  EATM has been an established major at Moorpark College since 1974 and is the only major of its kind.

MOORPARK COLLEGE, one of three colleges in the Ventura County Community College District, was founded in 1967. It is set on 150 beautiful acres, nestled in the foothills on the southeastern flank of Ventura County, about 40 miles from UCLA, and approximately 75 miles from UC Santa Barbara. It is also a short drive from CSU Northridge, CSU Channel Islands, and California Lutheran University. Moorpark College was recognized in the Huffington Post in March of 2015 as the fourth-best community college in the nation. It has an excellent reputation for university transfer preparation, and its signature career/technical programs include nursing, radiation technology, biotechnology, and exotic animal training, which incorporates the world-renowned America’s Teaching Zoo. The college also offers a dynamic range of classes and programs in the visual and performing arts, and its pristine athletic fields and mild climate provide an excellent home for student athletes.
