A Decade of Decadence Celebrated “Sideways”

sales times;”>Time sure flies when you’re having fun and drinking wine along the Ventura County wine trail! Can you believe that it’s been ten years since the movie “Sideways” sidewaysmade “Merlot” a household word, and a permanent “love it or hate it” topic of conversation? And a perennial competition between Merlot and Pinot Noir began.

To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the movie “Sideways” several wineries along the Ventura County Wine Trail will be pouring amazing wines and holding special events throughout the weekend. There are in Oxnard, except for the last one.

Rancho Ventavo Cellars, located on 741 South A St., 483-8084 will offer a 20% discount on bottles of Merlot (vintages 2005-2009. Strey Cellars, 951 N. Rice Ave., 988-1087 will offer $5 Merlot by the glass and 25% off bottles of Merlot.

La Dolce Vita Restaurant – 740 S. B Street, (805) 486-6878- will pull out all stops by offering special dinner menus and wine parings featuring new local cuisine for “Sideways Weekend” that included: Three-course gourmet experience paired with special release and our specialties from our own Ventura County Wine Trail Wineries and La Dolce Vita, “The Sweet Life” Catering. Three incredible courses will be pared with three awesome local wines beginning at 4 p.m., Friday, October 10, Saturday, October 11 and Sunday, October 12. RSVP required. $28 per person.
