I’ve lived in or near Ventura County for the last 40 years. During all that time, the 5th District, which is mostly Oxnard, has not had a County Supervisor who was as knowledgeable and experienced in finance, accounting, budgets, pensions, debt and management as Jeff Burum. We have a strong need for that skillset right now.
Jeff has a very impressive resume, education and experience. He is a retired CPA and financial adviser, Gulf War vet, retired USAF major, who played a key role in managing multiple Gulf War deployments and was stationed in combat zones. He earned his MBA, CPA and taught nuclear strategy and other subjects at the USAF Academy. Since retirement, he has been engaged in charity pursuits, on behalf of disabled war vets, gang members/kids at risk and homeless. He has become familiar with communities and issues and wishes to serve us in an area where he can bring abilities that simply do not exist on the Board of Supervisors or in other candidates.
Although he is not a professional career politician, he has extensive experience working and navigating his way through large government bureaucracies, first as an Air Force officer and later a civilian working on veterans’ issues and helping his financial clients as a CPA.
He performed quite well in the candidate forums/debates, which I urge you to view in our POLITICS section of Citizens Journal.
I hope that you will seriously consider voting for Jeff if you haven’t already. Consider the alternative of the best known candidates who have terribly mismanaged the finances, operations, infrastructure, economy and public safety of Oxnard.
Editor’s note: This is an opinion article.

I already voted for Mr. Burum, because he is by far the best candidate and also untainted by the terrible leadership failures of Carmen Ramirez and Flynn the younger.
I voted for Jeff. I hope he wins but this is Oxnard and we will most probably end up with one of the usual suspects, the hacks that back the unions and will give away the store, as usual.
