Update: As the result of a domestic dispute a 30 year old woman, whose identity has yet to be released, was shot dead by her ex-husband who then turned the gun on himself. The 33 year old husband was taken to a local hospital in grave condition.

Our Citizens Journal editor, Debra Tash was shopping with her family at The Oaks Mall in Thousand Oaks around 2:30PM on March 17, 2018, when people started running by Sephora where she was browsing with her 11 year old granddaughter. The pair went to the back of the store and took the emergency exit outside, still not knowing where her husband, three other grandchildren and children were. It took numerous phone calls to locate everyone, and they regrouped at another location away from the mall still not knowing why the stores had gone on lockdown and there were police and emergency personnel onsite. They later found out there was a report of a shooter in the mall.

According to VC Sheriffs Dept. Sgt. Eric Buschow of the Thousand Oaks Police unit, at about 2:15 pm today an incident occurred at the Paper Source store in the Oaks Mall. The area is now secured and an investigation is underway. Sgt Buschow said as near as they can now tell- and again investigation is still ongoing- an altercation took place in the store between a male and a female, leaving one dead and one transported to a local hospital. He did not say which one died. Currently, the working hypothesis is that it is likely a murder-suicide situation. They are not aware of any perpetrator(s) at large.

He said he thinks a couple of dozen Ventura County Sheriff officers initially responded, along with EMT’s and Fire Department units.
