Advisory | Coyote Alert in Port Hueneme

By Tom Dunn

As you may know the coyotes have moved into town due to the fire. I just want to make you all aware that they are very active during the 12am-4am period. Keep small pets inside, as they are looking for Food. Keep night time walks before Dusk.

Until officials can contain, trap & release them, we need to act in a safety manner. I drive for Lyft, and on my 12-4 shift, I’ve already seen 7 coyotes.

Please be aware and please be safe! I’ve seen them on HARBOR & VENTURA ROAD & HUENEME ROAD.

They’ve been seen in the Bolker Area, Surfside Area, All beaches (Hollywood & Silverstrand) they are moving in on Hemlock.

Thanks for the info.

Coyotes are opportunist predators. They don’t need a fire as an excuse to come into our neighborhoods looking for sources of food; usually our pets.

By the way, that photo of the coyote is one of my most favorite photos I’ve taken over the years in Newbury Park.

Thank you for your comment. People act like they just moved in, but they’ve always been here. It’s just now we are active in the hours to see them more frequently. And, we have more yummy pets. I’m 51 years old, and I grew up hearing coyotes yipping and yapping under the moonlight on the Oxnard plain.

PS: beautiful photo!
