Alleged Gang Member taken into Custody

On July 10, 2018, the California Highway Patrol responded to the 11000 Block of Nardo Street in the community of Saticoy reference a hit and run traffic collision. CHP officers ultimately located and arrested the suspect, 38 year old Oxnard resident, Mario Gaona, for driving under the influence of alcohol and leaving the scene of an accident.
The Sheriff’s Gang Unit conducted a follow-up investigation into the incident. Detectives learned during the incident, Gaona attempted to dissuade the victims from reporting the traffic collision to law enforcement. Gaona further threatened the victims, stating he was a member of a criminal street gang and would commit acts of violence against them.
On August 24, 2018, a search warrant was executed at Gaona’s residence and evidence was located which further implicated Gaona’s affiliation with a criminal street gang. Gaona was arrested for PC 422 – Criminal Threats, PC 136.1 – Witness Intimidation, and PC 186.22 – Street Terrorism.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office holds a zero tolerance on gang activity. The community is encouraged to report all gang activity to the Sheriff’s Office for enforcement and investigation.
