April 2 – 8, 2017, is National Crime Victims’ Rights Week

District Attorney Gregory D. Totten announced today that the week of April 2 – 8, 2017, is National Crime Victims’ Rights Week.  Since its inception in 1981, National Crime Victims’ Rights Week has been a time to honor both crime victims and the advocates who fight for victims’ rights and services.

The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office will commemorate National Crime Victims’ Rights Week with a ceremony on Wednesday, April 5, 2017.  This year’s ceremony will include remarks by domestic violence survivor Regina Rutherford whose personal story of survival, independence, strength, and resilience is inspiring.

The District Attorney will present Oxnard Police Detective Juanita Suarez with the Justice for Victims Award.  Additionally, the Ellie Liston Hero Award will be presented to retired Sergeant Mike Van Atta formerly of Oxnard and Ventura Police Departments.

We invite you to attend and join our collective reflection and recommitment to victims’ rights and services.  The program will begin at 11:45 a.m. at the Ventura County Government Center, Hall of Administration, Board of Supervisors Hearing Room, 800 South Victoria Avenue, Ventura, California.  Following the program, there will be a march around the Government Center.  Lunch will be provided by Interface Children and Family Services, The Coalition for Family Harmony, and the Coca-Cola Bottling Company.
