Attempted Armed Robbery in Port Hueneme – Suspect arrested

On December 3, 2019 at 2:40 PM, officers from the Port Hueneme Police Department responded to the 100 block of East Scott Street regarding an attempted armed robbery that just occurred.  

The crime occurred to a 74-year-old woman who was bringing food to her elderly mother who lived in the senior living apartments at that location. 

The suspect approached the victim, after she parked her vehicle and was preparing to remove property.  The suspect demanded the victim’s car keys and stated he had a gun.  The suspect grabbed the victim’s keys away from her and ran from the area.  The Suspect returned moments later and attempted to get into the victim’s vehicle.  The victim struggled with the suspect attempting to get him out of the vehicle.  At one point the victim and suspect both fell to the ground. 

The assault stopped when two Port Hueneme city employees saw what was occurring and yelled at the suspect as they were going towards the victim.  The suspect fled the area on foot.

After receiving the call, a Port Hueneme Officer Spotted the suspect in the area of Ventura Road and Clara Street.   After a brief foot pursuit, the Officer caught the suspect and took him into custody with out incident.  

The suspect, an Oxnard resident, Juan Carlos Eligio, 18 year of age, was booked into the Ventura County Jail, on charges of robbery, elder abuse and resisting arrest.  His bail was set at $50,000.

The victim was not injured as a result of the assault.
