Attempted Murder in Santa Paula

Santa Paula Police Department – Incident Press Release

On Saturday, June 3, 2017 at approximately 2:52am officers responded to a trailer park in the 200 block of S. Beckwith Road for a report of a shooting.  Upon arrival officers discovered a crime scene with multiple shell casings and a small blood trail.  Shortly after officers arrived on Beckwith Road 3 gunshot victims, all from Santa Paula ranging in ages from 17 to 30 years old, arrived at the Santa Paula Emergency Room and hospital staff notified police dispatch.  All three victims were then transported to Ventura County Medical Center.  Shortly after the shooting local agencies were notified of the shooting.  A Ventura Police Officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the City of Ventura due to the broadcast.  One suspect fled from the vehicle and was not captured.  Three other suspects were detained including Robert Villanueva, age 34 of Santa Paula, and a male juvenile, age 16 of Santa Paula.  A .40 caliber handgun was recovered as well.  Investigation determined this vehicle was connected to the shooting. 

Through investigation it was determined the three victims were confronted by suspect Robert Villanueva and an unknown subject.  During the confrontation a shooting occurred and all three victims sustained gunshot wounds.  One male adult victim and the female juvenile victim sustained non-life threatening injuries.  The other adult male victim is currently in surgery and his status is unknown.  At this time it is unknown if the incident is gang related however both suspects and one of the victims are documented gang members while the female juvenile victim is a gang associate.

Villanueva was transported to the Ventura County Main Jail for 3 counts of attempted murder, and possession of a controlled substance (both methamphetamine and heroin) where he is being held on $500,000 bail.  The male juvenile was transported to Ventura County Juvenile Hall Facility where he is being held.  Sanchez was released pending further investigation.
