On September 29th at 5:29 PM, the Ventura Police Department Command Center received a call from the Amtrak Dispatch Center that a train had possibly struck a pedestrian in the area of the Seaward Ave overcrossing.

VPD patrol officers and Ventura City Fire responded to the area and located the pedestrian who had sustained a non-life threatening injury to his arm.

The investigation determined that the victim had been attempting to cross the tracks on his bike when he observed a train approaching. The victim picked up his bike and continued walking along the side of the tracks.

As the train passed it struck the victim’s arm knocking him to the ground. The train stopped and the engineer notified his dispatch center.

The victim was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

Traffic was not impacted during this incident and once the scene was cleared the train was able to proceed on its way.

The Ventura Police Department would like to remind you that walking on or near the railroad tracks is extremely dangerous and that pedestrians should only cross at a designated crossing and only when safe to do so.
