    Board of Supervisors to host COVID-19 press conference Aug. 19 at 1 p.m.; report on Holser Fire which has burned over 2,500 acres; 20 percent contained

    VENTURA—The Ventura County Board of Supervisors announced a COVID-19 press conference at 1 p.m. Aug. 19 after meeting almost two hours in a closed session concerning Pastor Rob McCoy and Godspeak Calvary.  No announcement was made on Agenda Item 4 when the Board of Supervisors returned to open session.

    Citizens Journal is investigating if there was a Brown Act violation due to non sufficient public notice for the closed session special meeting. Meeting Notification was received by the Citizens Journal after the deadline for public comments. However, before going to closed session, it was announced that six public comments had been received.

    Upon return from the closed session, Ventura County residents were referred to announcements on its website about the Holser Fire near Lake Piru that has burned over 2,500 acres and was only 20 percent contained. Two firefighters who had been injured have been released from the Santa Paula hospital.

    The Holser fire broke out after 2 p.m. Monday in the area of Holser Canyon and Piru Canyon roads which is believed to have been caused by a vehicle fire which spread to a nearby patch of brush. About 400 personnel from Ventura County Fire Department, the Los Angeles County Fire Department and other surrounding agencies were taking part in the firefight.

    Before concluding their special meeting, Supervisor Kelly Long said, “Be safe and be conscious of our surroundings,” in regards to the heat wave that Ventura County and all of California is experiencing.

    The Clerk of the Board accepted at least some comments received after the deadline, but other people may not have even attempted to submit them when they missed the deadline
