Two Visions of America by Don Jans

Boys and Girls Club “The Club has taught me to lead with my heart and be myself.”

It is my pleasure to introduce Amethyst Glass, our 2021 Youth of the Year.
Amethyst is fifteen years old and has been attending our clubs since she was seven years old and has spent the last four years as a Junior Leader. Her goal is to create a positive environment at the clubs for members of the LGBTQ+ community and be a role model for younger members struggling with their gender identity or orientation. She spoke with great courage about her personal journey and her hope to inspire others.
Her goal is to attend UCLA to study medicine with the hopes of becoming an anesthesiologist.
For the next year, Amethyst will represent the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme. She is excited to share her club experience with people across our community.
I want to thank Yissel Barajas from Reiter Affiliated Companies, Jane Deal of the Goldschmidt Foundation and Natalie Jay of Ferguson, Case, Orr, Patterson for serving as judges for this year’s competition.
    Thank you,
    Erin Antrim
    CEO
