‘If there’s an attempt to close me down, we’ll see you at the Supreme Court,’ Sacramento pastor says
SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
“Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah,” said Pastor Sam Rodriguez.
Rodriguez is the lead pastor of New Season Worship in Sacramento. He said he is celebrating what he calls a win for religious freedom after the U.S. Supreme Court last week barred New York from enforcing certain limits on attendance at churches and synagogues in areas designated as hard hit by COVID-19.
Rodriguez is praying that the ruling paves the way for churches in California to stay open despite state orders. Last month, Gov. Gavin Newsom rolled back the majority of California counties to the most restrictive ‘purple’ tier which means most churches can no longer hold services inside.
