California Gov. Gavin Newsom proposed a $222 billion state budget on Friday that calls for $80.5 million to extend health care coverage to 27,000 illegal immigrant seniors, and that’s not sitting well with Fox Nation’s Tomi Lahren.
“As if this state doesn’t bend over backwards enough for illegals, as if California taxpayers aren’t burdened enough by these big government programs, as if we don’t have enough problems, including a homelessness epidemic — now this,” said Lahren on her Fox Nation show “Final Thoughts.”
“It wasn’t enough to cover illegals under 19 and all pregnant women under Medi-Cal [the state program for low-income residents],” Lahren continued. “It wasn’t enough to offer health care to all illegals under 26. Now, this ridiculous state is planning to expand that coverage to illegals 65 and older, aka a very expensive group to insure.”
California has been steadily adding different groups of illegal immigrants in the state to the rolls of its state-run health care program. Opponents of the expansion said the additional of elderly illegal immigrants will put further strain on a system that is already struggling.
