I miss Jerry Brown. While disliked in California with his goal of depopulating the State, he at least vetoed bills he knew were unconstitutional. Like the one demanding presidential candidates release their tax forms or they would not be allowed on the ballot.
“Instead, we’re seeing predictable results. Freelance writers, photographers, and artists were not exempted from the measure — and the layoff notices have been coming to these workers as the year’s end approaches. The newly unemployed shouldn’t worry, though. The law’s sponsor, Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez, D-San Diego, said in a tweet (as quoted by Reason): “These were never good jobs. No one has ever suggested that, even freelancers.”
That’s progressivism reduced to one short tweet. These folks know what’s best for us and can determine what jobs are good and which ones shouldn’t exist. When it comes to drivers, hundreds of thousands of jobs could be at risk, according to a recent economic study. Companies that hire drivers have filed suit and are gathering signatures for an initiative that would exempt these workers, but it’s anybody’s guess how this madness might shake out.
Brown went after the agriculture industry by limiting water. Newsom is going after every industry, from oil, agriculture, ranching, and part time work. Watch as hundreds of thousands lose their jobs thanks to AB 5. These folks will either pay bribes to unions, if they want to work, stop working or…
I know of a journalist that due to AB 5 can not longer work in California. So, they are “moving” to another State, getting a home address, a drivers license, a utility bill—while staying in California. Their child will continue to attend California schools.
Brown made sure that California would slowly die. Newsom wants it to happen now. I miss Brown.
