On April 5, Mr. Fox, 56, was appointed Interim Assistant City Manager; he had planned to retire at the end of 2016, after 26 years of service with the City, including serving as Public Works Director for the past 14 years.  “Tom’s knowledge and experience are critical to the success of several of our large capital projects and water-related programs, such as the hotel/conference center, the groundwater desalter, and the water conservation program,” stated Mr. Norman. “Since his appointment as Interim Assistant City Manager in April, Tom has proven time and again that he is well-suited for the Assistant City Manager role, and that he and I make an effective team. I’m glad that he has decided to postpone his retirement for the foreseeable future.”

Speaking about the appointment, Mayor Mike Morgan noted, ”We did the same type of transition several years ago when long-time former Public Works Director Bob Westdyke became the Interim Assistant City Manager under Jerry Bankston. Tom Fox’s move to regular Assistant City Manager status will provide needed continuity in the organization at a time when we have a lot of good things going on.”
