Camarillo | Interim Finance Director Named

Camarillo, California – City Manager Dave Norman has appointed current Assistant Director of Finance Mark Uribe as Interim Director of Finance, effective March 30, 2020.

“After a full recruitment and careful consideration, it is my pleasure to appoint Mark Uribe as the Interim Director of Finance,” said Mr. Norman. “Mark’s understanding of the City’s budget and operations provides the City with a knowledgeable person at the head of the Finance Department as the City transitions through several key retirements.”

Former Director of Finance Genie Rocha retired December 30, 2019 after three years in the position.  Mr. Norman will retire on April 3, 2020 after a 32-year career in local government and four years as City Manager.  Mr. Clifford, who will succeed Mr. Norman as Interim City Manager on April 4, will retire on or before June 30, 2020, depending on the arrival date of the next City Manager.

Mr. Uribe has over 25 years of municipal finance experience. He began his career with Moreland & Associates, a CPA firm specializing in audits of local governments, and has worked at four cities throughout Southern California, including serving nine years as the Assistant Director of Finance for the City of Camarillo.

Current Interim Director of Finance Misty Cheng, an independent contractor, will continue to serve in her current capacity through Sunday, March 29, 2020. She will then serve the City on a consultative basis, as needed, until April 30, 2020.  “This was Misty’s second tour of duty with us, having previously filled the Interim Director role between former Directors Ronnie Campbell and Genie Wilson,” said Mr. Norman. “Once again, Misty has done a great job holding the Department together and providing solid advice. I’m glad she was available to assist us again.”

Mr. Uribe’s appointment as Interim Director of Finance will allow the next City Manager the opportunity to evaluate Mr. Uribe’s abilities and determine the future direction of the Finance Department.  “I have every confidence that Mark will attain permanent Director status under the next City Manager,” said Mr. Norman, “He is a talented finance professional eager to excel as the next Director of Finance.”
