Camarillo, California – The City of Camarillo is seeking community input in developing a Local Road Safety Plan (LRSP). The LRSP will be used to analyze safety data such as roadway geometry, collision trends, and traffic violations on local City roads to develop countermeasures that can most effectively address the safety issues that contribute to collisions.
The LRSP offers a proactive approach to addressing safety needs on public streets by providing a framework for residents, stakeholders, and City staff, to identify, analyze, and prioritize roadway safety improvements on City streets. The LRSP is a safety planning process that uses a systematic data-driven analysis to proactively address local roadway safety needs, evaluating input from multiple key stakeholders.
The LRSP outreach process will include engaging stakeholders from the five E’s of Traffic Safety: Engineering, Enforcement, Education, Emergency Response, and Emerging Technologies. The LRSP will be consistent with California’s Statewide Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP) and provide eligibility for grant funding through the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP). The ultimate goal of the LRSP is to develop a list of countermeasures that can be applied systemically across multiple locations to proactively reduce fatalities and injury collisions.
The LRSP is anticipated to be complete by summer of 2021. The plan will be reviewed by the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, followed by a Stakeholder Working Group meeting, Public Engagement Meeting, and ultimately to the Camarillo City Council for adoption. The final plan will guide the development of specific improvement projects to be implemented by the Traffic Engineering Division or through a future 5-Year Capital Improvement Program.
