Camarillo Public Library to Offer Curbside Pickup

Camarillo, California – Beginning June 15, 2020, the Camarillo Public Library will offer curbside pickup Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.

“Curbside service is a safe and easy way to check out materials from the library, and we are pleased to be able to offer this service to the Camarillo community,” explained Antonio Apodaca, Camarillo Library Director.

Here’s how it works: Library patrons may place a hold on up to ten items, either on-line at www.camarillolibrary.org or by phone: (805) 388-5222. The library requires one full business day to process requests. When a library patron places items on hold, library employees will pull the available items from the shelves, process for pick-up, and notify the patron that the items are ready for pick-up. Once notified that the items are ready, patrons will park in a numbered parking space within the library parking lot, and call (805) 388-5222 to give library employees their name, library card number, and parking space number. Patrons are asked to remain in their vehicle and a library employee will deliver items to the vehicle. Library staff will be incorporating social distancing and protective measures into this curbside pickup process to keep employees and patrons safe.

Below are some Frequently Asked Questions about this process.

How do I know my requests are ready to pick up?

Please allow for one full business day to process requests. Patron accounts are updated online or you may call the library to check on the status of your requests. Notifications will also be sent by email, phone, or text.

Are my library books checked out?

Once you call library staff for curbside pickup, held items will be checked out to your account. A receipt will be included with your items listing the due date.

When are my items due back?

All items are due in three weeks and must be returned using drive-up book drops.

How many items may I check out at one time?

Due to high demand, hold requests and check outs are limited to 10 items per household. All items returned to the library will be quarantined for two full days before being marked as returned. This will not result in late fines but will delay the return process of your items.

May I still use curbside service even if my account has fines?

This service is offered to all patrons regardless of outstanding fines.

    Where do I park?

Please park in a numbered space located in the lot behind the drive-up book drops. Accessible parking spaces are available.

Do I need to wear a mask?

Cloth face coverings are encouraged, as they are recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in all public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.

    Is curbside service safe?

The library adheres to all industry and workplace guidance from the California Department of Public Health, Ventura County Public Health Department, and the City of Camarillo. This includes the adoption of a written COVID-19 prevention plan, physical distancing to the maximum extent possible, use of face coverings by all staff, frequent handwashing and regular cleaning and disinfection, and training staff on COVID-19 prevention.

“At the June 10th City Council meeting, some City Council members expressed a strong interest in providing a weekend day for curbside pickup, and we are working through staffing logistics and contract language to try and accommodate that,” stated Interim Admin Services Director John Thomas.
