Camarillo, California – Southern California Edison (SCE) has completed their LED retrofit of approximately 4500 streetlights throughout Camarillo.
The retrofit began in October and was completed at the beginning of December 2020. “The lights are a significant upgrade for our community and will provide an immediate cost savings to the City’s energy bills, the benefit of which will be seen for years to come,” shared City Manager Greg Ramirez.
The new lights were replaced by skilled electrical workers who travelled up to the light in a bucket, removed the old fixture, and replaced it with a new integrated LED fixture. Each fixture was meticulously wired into the electrical feed and mounted on the mast arm of the streetlight. Then, it was leveled and tested for functionality before the crew moved to the next light. The crews worked efficiently and safely, spending an average of twelve minutes at each streetlight to complete the work.
“This project is an example of abundant collaboration between SCE and City staff,” explained Mr. Ramirez, “one that provides the benefit of enhanced visibility and safety on our City streets and achieves environmental benefits of reduced energy consumption and carbon footprint reduction.”
The majority of streetlights in Camarillo are owned and operated by SCE. Traffic signals and decorative lights within the public right-of-way are owned and operated by the City of Camarillo. Traffic signals on State Route 34 (Lewis Road) and at the 101 Freeway ramps are operated and maintained by Caltrans.
To report an issue or concern with a streetlight, residents are advised to contact SCE directly by utilizing the SCE smart phone application outage center and report a streetlight out or by visiting www.sce.com. Be prepared to enter an address and, if possible, the pole tag number that is on the light about six feet up from the ground on the street side of the pole. As a courtesy, residents may contact the City’s Public Works Department at (805) 388-5340 and the City will report the streetlight issue or concern to SCE.
