Camarillo | Suspects arrested for residential burglary

Ventura County Sheriff – Incident Press Release

Deputies and detectives from the Camarillo Police Department make arrest related to an in- progress residential burglary which occurred in the early morning hours of November 2, 2020.

On October 31, 2020, an unknown suspect stole items from an unlocked car in the 1700 block of Monte Vista Drive. Items stolen included knives and a garage door opener. This theft was not initially reported to the Camarillo Police Department.

On November 2, 2020, at about 3:20 am, deputies responded to a call for service in the 1700 block of Monte Vista where a homeowner had discovered an unknown person inside of his garage. The homeowner attempted to detain the suspect but he fled the area on foot. The homeowner was able to provide information related to the suspect’s vehicle and his physical description. A search of the area was conducted which led deputies to Motel 6 in Camarillo; however, the suspect was not initially located.

At about 7:00 am, plain clothes detectives with the Camarillo Special Enforcement Detail observed Michael Turner in the parking lot of Motel 6. Turner, who is on parole for burglary related convictions, was detained. This led investigators to a room at Motel 6 where Gustavo Gonzales was located. Gonzales is currently on probation for theft related convictions.  The  room was searched and evidence was located. Items located in the room were linked to the theft which had occurred on October 31, including the garage door opener of the victim. Gonzales used the garage door opener to access the victim’s home. The search of the room also revealed additional items linked to identity theft. Items included stolen checks, a stolen passport, and payroll checks.

Gonzales was booked into the Ventura County Jail for Penal Code (PC) 459, First Degree Residential Burglary, PC 530.5(a), Identity Theft, PC 496, Possession of Stolen Property, and Health and Safety Code 11550(a), Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance. Gonzales’  bail was set at $105,000 dollars.

Turner was booked into the Ventura County Jail for Health and Safety Code 11550(a), Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance and Penal Code 3056, Parole Hold. Turner was  not currently eligible for bail as a result of his parole hold.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the community lock their vehicles and avoid leaving items of value in plain view. It is also advisable to report any theft which occurs; no matter the value of the items taken. These seemingly small items can lead to arrests and convictions of criminals who prey on our community.
