Hello, my name is Monica Madrigal Lopez. Born and raised in the city of Oxnard, I want to give back to the city and the schools that molded me to be the individual that I am today. I am proud to call myself a product of our Oxnard public school

??????????

system. I attended Lemonwood Elementary School, Robert J. Frank and Channel Islands High School. In 2010, I graduated from California Lutheran University with a Bachelors Degree in Sociology and Spanish. In 2013, I received my Masters Degree in Counseling and Guidance with a Pupil Personnel Services Credential from Cal Lutheran. For the past six years I have worked at Cal Lutheran for a federally funded TRiO program, Student Support Services (SSS). SSS helps first-generation, low-income, and students with disabilities to retain and graduate from Cal Lutheran. I hold TRiO programs close to my heart, as a product of two TRiO programs at Cal Lutheran; Upward Bound and Student Support Services; they gave me the opportunity to be where I am today.

I am running because education is an essential piece in every child’s life. It is important that every student is accounted for and that every student has the opportunity to succeed academically in a safe and comfortable environment. I want to make sure that every student is a product of equity education and that there are better resource for students and their parents. I also want to make sure that administrators, teachers, and support staff are being held accountable. Growing up in La Colonia, I felt that often times the resources were lacking, I want to make sure no child ever feels that way, I want to make sure the voice of our future leaders is heard.
