    Car Burglar Arrested On Seven Counts Of Theft

    Nature of Incident: Subject arrested for prowling and seven counts of theft from vehicles

    Narrative:

    (S) Fernando Ocampo was located and arrested for prowling and possession of stolen property. Following the arrest, deputies discovered Ocampo entered at least seven unlocked vehicles and stole property.

    On 09/02/21, at about 01:48 AM, deputies from the Camarillo Police Department responded to the 100 Block of Camino Ruiz reference a report of a suspicious subject. A resident report that Ocampo was in their backyard and looking into their residence with a flashlight. Numerous deputies responded to the area and located Ocampo. Ocampo was identified based on the description provided by the caller.

    Ocampo was in possession of various items of property that did not belong to him. Some of the items included credit cards and a vaccination card issued to people other than Ocampo. The area was canvased, but deputies were not able to locate any theft victims. Ocampo was arrested for prowling and misappropriation of found property and booked at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility.

    Following the arrest, multiple victims came forward and reported items having been stolen from their vehicles. In total, seven victims who reside in the 100 Block of Camino Ruiz and the 5100 Block of Via Calderon came forward to report the thefts.

    Several of the victims were able to describe and recover the majority of their stolen property, including the property Ocampo possessed at the time of his arrest. Video surveillance recovered from one of the victims further implicated Ocampo in the thefts.

    Seven counts of theft from a vehicle and a violation of probation were added to Ocampo’s booking charges.

    Some of the items found in Ocampo’s possession have not been claimed or identified by victims. If you reside in the areas of Camino Ruiz and Via Calderon and property was stolen from your vehicle, please contact the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office at (805) 654-9511 to report the theft.
