The Port was proud to host the 2018 Military Appreciation Mixer, a joint event held by the Hueneme and Oxnard Chambers of Commerce. Held at the beautiful Channel Islands Maritime Museum, more than 100 guests enjoyed appetizers and beverages while they mingled and toured the permanent exhibits at the Museum, including the Port of Hueneme displays upstairs. Mary Anne Rooney, President of the Board of Oxnard Harbor Commissioners, spoke to members of the military in the audience. “From leading the War effort in the Pacific during WWII to supporting our troops across the globe today, we are forever grateful for your service and we celebrate all you do for our nation.” Captain Jeff Chism, Commanding Officer for the Naval Base Ventura County, and Harbor Commission Vice President Jess Herrera were among others who also welcomed attendees. The 2019 Chief Selectees from various commands aboard Naval Base Ventura County entertained the guests with a rousing rendition of “Anchors Aweigh.”
The Port has a strong history of collaboration with Naval Base Ventura County, including supporting one another in protecting our nation and bringing economic opportunity to our local communities.
