Channel Islands Maritime Museum Celebrates Re-Opening with Food Drive

Museum will be collecting food donations on behalf of Food Share Ventura County

Oxnard, CA: The Channel Islands Maritime Museum is happy to announce the Museum’s long-awaited re-opening and a re-opening weekend food drive on behalf of Food Share Ventura County. The Museum will re-open to the public on Saturday, October 24th, from noon to 4 p.m., and the food drive will also take place on Saturday, October 24th, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Adri Howe, Executive Director of the Museum, had this to say when asked about the re-opening and the food drive, “We have been waiting for so long to have the chance to re-open the Museum and are so grateful that it is finally happening. We couldn’t think of a better way to show our gratitude than to host a food drive for our friends and neighbors who need assistance during these still very challenging times. Our community has always been and continues to be a source of support for us, and we are eager to give back in any way we can.”

Food donations will be accepted in the Museum’s front patio/parking lot areas. Donations can also be made by boat or other water transportation modes at the dock in front of the Museum. The top five most needed items are: Canned Proteins-tuna, chicken, salmon; Non-Sugary Cereals; Beans-dry and canned; Rice-in 1-2 pound bags or mixes; and Peanut Butter. The Museum asks that only non-perishable items be donated and that all donations not be past their expiration dates. As a thank you for donations, all donors will receive a coupon good for 50% off of (2) regular adult admissions for the Museum (one coupon per donation of food).

About Food Share: Since 1978, Food Share has been feeding the hungry in Ventura County. It all began when eight friends banded together to provide food to those in need under a bridge in Ventura, CA. The early philanthropic movement started in a family garage, quickly outgrew a donated fire station in Saticoy and now operates in Oxnard, CA with two warehouses with a combined 36,000 square feet. Today, staff and volunteers distribute more than 17 million pounds of food, or more than 20 million meals annually through its 190 pantry and program partners. As Ventura County’s regional food bank, Food Share provides food for over 75,000 hungry friends and neighbors monthly. Food Share is a member of Feeding America, the nation’s largest hunger-relief network of food banks, as well as the California Association of Food Banks.

About Channel Islands Maritime Museum: Located in Oxnard’s Channel Islands Harbor at 3900 Bluefin Circle, the Museum’s galleries feature very rare and beautiful maritime paintings dating back to the 1600’s, more than sixty world-class models of historic ships, rotating thematic fine arts exhibitions, and interactive exhibits that encourage visitors to expand their horizons about everything maritime. Starting October 23, 2020 the Museum will be open Friday through Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
