Charges filed for vehicular manslaughter in fatal accident

District Attorney Gregory D. Totten announced today that gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated charges, and driving under the influence of alcohol  causing  injury charges have been filed against Sara Beth Roche (DOB 06/03/87), of Ventura, for  the  killing  of Matthew John Alvarado and the injury to Emmanuel Marks on July 19, 2014. The complaint charges Roche with one count of Penal Code section  191.5(a) with a special allegation per Vehicle Code section 23558 of causing injury to more than one person. Roche is also charged with Vehicle Code section 23153(a) and (b) for causing injury to Mr. Marks with a special allegation per VC 23578 for having a blood alcohol concentration of .15 or greater. Roche, who has pled not guilty, faces a maximum penalty of 11 years and 8 months in prison. Bail for Roche was set at $100,000.

This matter is set for an Early Disposition Conference on August 18, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. in courtroom 12 of the Ventura County Superior Court.
