“El Club” will be shown at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, at Muvico Thousand Oaks 14.

The 2015 film’s many awards include the Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize at the Berlin International Film Festival and Best Director, Best Ensemble and Best Screenplay at the Chicago International Film Festival.

Directed and co-written by Pablo Larraín, the movie brings viewers into the home of four priests of various ages who have been removed from the ministry for a range of sins or crimes. They live with a nun in a house on the Chilean coast. When they are not praying and atoning for their sins, they train their greyhound for the next race.

When a new priest moves in, a man turns up at the door and starts making strong accusations about the newcomer. Little by little, dark secrets come to light, revealing the pasts of these servants of God and contradictions in the Catholic Church.

The movie will be shown in Spanish with English subtitles.

Cal Lutheran’s Department of Languages and Cultures and Pearson Library are sponsoring the event.

The theater is located at 166 W. Hillcrest Drive. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
