OXNARD, Calif. – The community is invited to celebrate the holiday season at the City of Oxnard’s annual Tamale Festival on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Plaza Park (500 S. C St.) in Downtown Oxnard.
The festival hosts dozens of vendors serving a variety of tamale recipes from throughout central and southern California and offers live entertainment from local bands including InStone and Zon Candela, as well as mariachi and norteño groups, among others. Indulge in savory treats throughout the morning as the Downtown Christmas Parade wraps around Plaza Park. Event entry is free; food and beverages must be purchased from vendors.
Take a stroll down the festival’s “Tamale Blvd.” in Plaza Park and experience the savory and sweet tamale winners from last year’s “Best Tamale” contest. New vendors added to the festival will offer pork ribs and chile corundas, a Michoacán tamale specialty, as well as Oaxacan mole with chicken tamales. Other new tamale offerings include tamales Cubanos filled with chicharrón, bacon, ham and rib meat and Guatemalan-style tamales wrapped in banana leaves. Vegetarian tamales will also be available. Sweet treats include strawberry and pineapple tamales, as well as champurrado, the thick Mexican hot chocolate.
The festival will also host a holiday marketplace offering arts and crafts shopping. This year, an enlarged Kids Zone will offer fun activities for families and children to enjoy throughout the day.

OXNARD, Calif. – Se invita a la comunidad a celebrar la temporada navideña en el Festival anual del Tamal de la Ciudad de Oxnard el sábado 7 de diciembre de 9 a.m. a 6:30 p.m. en Plaza Park (500 S. C St.) en el centro de Oxnard.
El festival recibe a docenas de vendedores que sirven una variedad de recetas de tamales de todo el centro y sur de California. Ofrece entretenimiento en vivo de bandas locales como InStone y Zon Candela, así como grupos de mariachis y norteños, entre otros. Disfrute con sabrosos antojitos y bocadillos toda la mañana mientras el Desfile de Navidad se extiende por el parque de la plaza. La entrada al evento es gratis; los alimentos y bebidas deben comprarse de los vendedores.
Dé un paseo por el “Tamale Blvd.” del festival en Plaza Park y experimente los sabrosos y dulces tamales de los ganadores al “El Mejor Tamal” del año pasado. Los nuevos vendedores agregados al festival ofrecerán costillas de cerdo y corundas de chile que es una especialidad de tamal de Michoacán, así como mole oaxaqueño con tamales de pollo. Otras nuevas ofertas de tamal incluyen tamales cubanos rellenos de chicharrón, tocino, jamón y costillas y tamales de estilo guatemalteco envueltos en hojas de plátano. Los tamales vegetarianos también estarán disponibles. Los antojitos dulces incluyen tamales de fresa y piña, así como champurrado, el espeso chocolate caliente mexicano.
El festival también recibirá un mercado navideño que ofrece compras de artesanías. Este año, una zona infantil ampliada ofrecerá actividades divertidas para que las familias y los niños disfruten durante todo el día.
