Oxnard City Manager Alexander Nguyen announces the appointment of Katie Casey as the City’s new Communications Manager. She brings more than 15 years of strategic communications experience in both the public and private sector to the job. Her first day will be August 26, 2019.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with City staff and serve the community of Oxnard,” Casey said. “I look forward to enhancing the communication between the City, its residents and its stakeholder groups.”
Casey will support the City Manager’s Office under Deputy City Manager Shiri Klima’s supervision. She will be responsible for planning, organizing and managing citywide communications, public information, community and media relations, as well as offering guidance to City departments in public relations matters.
“I am very pleased that Ms. Casey has chosen to join our team,” said Nguyen. “She is a strategic thinker who will elevate the City’s communications so we reach more residents.”
Casey joins Oxnard City Hall staff from the West Basin Municipal Water District in Carson, Calif., where she served as a Public Information Specialist. During her successful tenure at the Water District, she was responsible for developing its media relations and social media strategy, overseeing the quarterly e-newsletter content creation and production, and engaging the District’s nearly one million residents through 17 cities and unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County.
Before her time at the Water District, Casey was the Public Information Officer and the Interim Public Information Officer for the cities of Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach, respectively. She has also been an independent public relations consultant, working with local organizations and municipalities to bring forth community campaigns.
