    City of Oxnard Issues Emergency Proclamation in Response to COVID-19

    OXNARD, Calif. – This morning City Manager Alexander Nguyen issued a proclamation of a local emergency in response to the coronavirus. This proclamation should not cause any panic. It is a necessary step for the City to take in order to 1.) implement social distancing measures, 2.) help contain the spread of the coronavirus, and 3.) make the City eligible for emergency funding from the State and Federal government.

    Our City is staffed and prepared to provide essential services to our community should the coronavirus escalate in our community. Our infrastructure and utilities are not under any threat.

    CLOSURES

    The City will close some facilities, and suspend the following programs and events until further notice.

    Oxnard Pre-School 

    The City’s pre-school program is closing starting Monday, March 16 until further notice.

    Facilities

    The following City facilities are closed to the public until further notice: 

    • Three Senior Centers (South Oxnard, Palm Vista, Wilson)

      • Senior nutrition program is still available

    • Four Youth Centers (South Oxnard, Colonia, Southwinds, PAL)

    • Three Libraries (Colonia, South Oxnard and Main Branch)

    • Three Basketball Gyms (Colonia, PAL, Rio Vista)

    • Special populations programs 

    Recreation Programs

    The City has suspended the following programs until further notice:

    • Special Populations – Suspended as of 3/11

    • Senior Centers  – Suspended as of 3/11

    • Boxing Programs  – Suspended as of 3/11

    • All Recreation Classes  – Suspended at all facilities as of 3/13 until further notice

    • Youth Centers – All programs are suspended as of 3/13 until further notice

    • Adult sports leagues – Are postponed until further notice

    • Gymnasiums – Open gyms are closed until further notice and the Boys Rotary Tournament is postponed at this time

    • Youth Directors Council  – PAL, Colonia and City Corps are cancelled until further notice

    • Meet Up Clean Up – Events scheduled for 3/14 and 4/4 are postponed until further notice 

    Rentals

    Field and facility reservations are suspended until further notice. The City will be cancelling current reservations that are scheduled through April 13.

    Other Recreation Events

    Junior High Grad Night Ticket Sales

    • Are suspended until further notice

    PAL Dinner Auction 

    • Postponed until further notice

    CITY MEETINGS & EVENTSCity Council & Planning Commission Meetings

    The City Council Chambers can only provide seating for up to 15 members of the public as part of the social distancing measures. There will be overflow rooms at the HR Activity Room and Library Meeting Room B with social distancing seating arrangements.

    Residents are encouraged to participate remotely by viewing the meeting on the City’s website under “City Meetings” at www.oxnard.org as well as on Spectrum Channel 10 and Frontier Communications Channel 35, or YouTube at www.youtube.com/oxnardnews

    People are encouraged to submit their comments via email before 3 p.m. to the City Clerk at [email protected] and they will be provided to the Council. 

    Board and Commission meetings

    Other than the Planning Commission, all meetings are suspended until further notice.

    City Events

    Following guidance from the State to cancel events in March with more than 250 attendees, the City of Oxnard will postpone its Job Fair on Friday, March 27 at the Oxnard Recreation Center. We look forward to hosting this valuable community event at a later date and will provide updates when it has been rescheduled.

    Neighborhood Council Meetings

    These meetings are suspended until further notice.

    OTHER UPDATES

    Oxnard Water

    The COVID-19 virus has not been detected in drinking-water supplies. Based on current evidence, the risk to water supplies is extremely low. We can continue to use and drink water from the tap.

    Fees

    • Library fines will be suspended during the City’s local emergency

    • The City will waive utility penalties and will not discontinue service for delinquent accounts of those who are affected during this emergency
