City of Port Hueneme’s Response to Port Train Activity
The City appreciates the efforts of the Port to keep the public informed regarding train activity in Port Hueneme. We are happy that the increased train traffic means increased cargo and revenues for the Port, which in turn means more jobs and more General Fund revenue for the City. The City is also working closely with the Port and the City of Oxnard to evaluate whether “Quiet Zones” would be a good option for our communities to reduce the impact of train horns, especially in residential neighborhoods. Getting a Quiet Zone approved is a long and difficult process, but we are meeting with Federal and State officials to learn more about the process and to see if it makes sense for us.
