Ventura, Calif. — The City of Ventura is hosting a scavenger hunt to encourage the community to enjoy local parks and showcase hidden gems and landmarks.
The Scavenger Hunt Challenge takes place at eight participating city parks, including:
- Hobert Park
- Chumash Park
- Junanamaria Park
- Montalvo Hill Park
- Marion Cannon Park
- Thille Park
- Blanch Reynolds Park
- Kellogg Park
Nearly 40 years of research from the National Park and Recreation Association confirms that nature, including parks, gardens, and green spaces, supports human health and wellness. Their research shows a direct correlation between active living and opportunities to avoid chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and respiratory problems.
“People need an outlet during these stressful times. This activity is meant to support the effort to slow the spread of COVID-19 while providing a fun activity that encourages people to go outside and enjoy our parks safely”, stated Nancy O’Connor, City of Ventura Parks and Recreation Director.
Residents are asked to follow all CDC and local public health guidelines for reducing the spread of COVID-19 when participating in this activity. This includes limiting gathering with anyone outside your household, wearing a face covering, washing hands frequently, and maintaining at least 6 feet of distance from others.
The City of Ventura is encouraging residents to engage and share photos on social media. To participate, take photos of the hidden gems from the scavenger hunt list, post them to Facebook, and tag @VenturaParksAndRecreation. Participants can also send pictures to Recreation Coordinator Tyler Nelson at [email protected] to have photos featured on the City of Ventura’s social media or website!
