City of Ventura Thomas Fire Community Meeting, December 9
Residents of Ventura who have been directly affected by the Thomas Fire are invited to attend a community meeting at 12pm on Saturday, December 9, in the Auditorium of Buena High School, 5670 Telegraph Road, Ventura. Community Access Partners San Buenaventura (CAPS) is providing a live feed, accessible for viewing on local channels 15 and 6, and will stream the meeting at capsmedia.org.
During the meeting, residents will receive an update on the Thomas Fire Incident and hear from City and County officials regarding public health, debris removal, housing, and other human services. After the presentation, representatives from various Ventura County agencies, City of Ventura departments, utility companies, the Red Cross, and Ventura Unified School District will be available in the Buena High School cafeteria to answer questions and provide important information to residents.
The City of Ventura expects to hold multiple community meetings as we work together through this incident. The recovery for the Thomas Fire is long term process and the City thanks its residents for their patience. On December 4, 2017, a fast moving active brush fire that started North of Santa Paula along Highway 150 and Bridge Road was pushed by strong east winds through the City of Ventura. There are more than 3,500 firefighters and fire departments from multiple states involved plus cooperating agencies and community partners. The fire is currently estimated at 132,000 acres. Several hundreds of structures have burned throughout the City.
