THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Hillcrest Center for the Arts restarts its series of classical concerts on Sunday Afternoons on YouTube Live. Sunday, January 17, 2021 will feature pianist Xiao Chen at 2:00 p.m. This series highlights internationally renowned classical artists and well-known local chamber groups and musicians, bringing classical music directly into your home. Xiao Chen is a soloist and chamber musician performing throughout the U.S., China, and Europe, at Carnegie Hall, Fischer Center for Performing Arts, and Shanghai Concert Hall. Ms. Chen attended Bard College as a double major and furthered her studies at The Juilliard School, obtaining her Master of Music degree. Most recently, Ms. Chen received her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at UCLA. She is the recipient of many awards including: The American Prize, Frances Walton Competition, Carmel Music Society Piano Competition, The Muse International Competition, ‘London’ Grand Prize Virtuoso International Music Competition, and Steinway & Sons International Youth Piano Competition. Ms. Chen is currently on faculty at Mount Saint Mary’s University.
The program includes two pieces by Frederic Chopin, Waltz in A-flat major, Op.42 and Barcarolle in F sharp major, Op.60. Audiences will also hear Sheep May Safely Graze by Johann Sebastian Bach and Humoreske, Op.20 by Robert Schumann. This concert was pre-recorded for this event.
This concert is the part of a series that features classical music at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts, when it is safe to perform live. The goal of the series is to provide world-class chamber groups and soloists to local audiences in an intimate setting. Series Artistic Director, Ms. Gulia Gurevich is a violinist and a violist, residing in Southern California with her husband and two young daughters. Gulia is also the owner and director of a music school, and runs a festival in France and a classical music series in the Los Angeles area. “We are all excited to bring back this series in an online format with world class, award winning musicians,” says Gurevich. “The staff at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts has perfected the process.”
