The driver of the Camry stated that he and his passenger were traveling northbound on Rose Ave. approaching the T intersection at 800 Rose Ave. and 1700 Mountain View Ave. in Oxnard, Ca. He said that the Navigator darted out in a westerly direction from the strawberry fields exit into his path on Rose. He said that he slammed on the brakes, “but it was right in front of me”.

The Camry slammed low into the Navigator’s driver side door trapping the driver inside. The SUV ended across Rose nearly missing some water pipes, while the Camry was spun out facing south on Rose with front bumper sheared off and airbags deployed.

Oxnard firefighters used the jaws-of-life apparatus to cut out the door and extract the driver. The driver and a passenger, both male, of the Navigator were taken to the hospital. It was not clear what the extent of their injuries were.

The driver of the Camry and his female passenger were not injured, but were obviously in shock from the experience. Paramedics took their vital signs as a precaution and then released them.

Traffic is heavy at this time of day on weekdays, there is no traffic light at this intersection and the field is fenced with black plastic draped on the fence which may have contributed to the accident.

The accident is under investigation.
